Boko Haram Still In Control Of Our Village "Gwoza", Displaced Persons Say

The Internally Displaced Persons from Gwoza Local Government Area of Borno State have dispelled claims by the military that members of the Boko Haram Islamic sect have been tactically defeated in their domain.

According to them, Gwoza and other towns within the area were still under the control of Boko Haram, adding that they had been under pressure by the National Emergency Agency and National Human Rights Commission to return to their various communities in order to prove that the insurgents had been defeated.

The chairman of the IDP camp in New Kuchingoro area of Abuja, Mr. Philemon Emmanuel, stated this in an interview with journalists on Thursday evening in Abuja, when the Chairman, Senate Committee of the Federal Capital Territory, Senator Dino Melaye (Kogi West) visited them with some items to celebrate his birthday.

According to him, this would be the first time a serving Senator would pay a visit to the IDP camp, alleging that even their own Senator had abandoned them.

He said, “The NHRC and NEMA have continually told us that we will go back to our villages because Boko Haram has been pushed out of our villages, which is not true.

No military went to our villages. There is no military in Gwoza and our village is controlled by Boko Haram. We are begging you to take our complaints to the National Assembly.

“You can help us to talk to the Chief of Army Staff so that he can send soldiers to our villages to flush out the insurgents. If we are able to confirm that Boko Haram has been flushed out from our villages, even, tomorrow, we are ready to go.”

While addressing the IDPs, Melaye prayed to God that peace be restored in the North-East in order for them to return to their various homes.

He begged Boko Haram to immediately release the kidnapped Chibok girls.

Items donated by Melaye include cow, Indomie Noodles, bags of rice, cake, books and other writing materials. ‎

A primary 4 pupil, Aliu Ibrahim read one of the books, entitled: “The Fisherman and The Fish”, presented by the Senator.
