Ahead of their first real test together in Manchester United colours, midfielders Paul Pogba and Memphis Depay enjoyed their free time in the Manchester city centre on Wednesday. Both the players seemed to be in a lighter mood ahead of a must-win game against Manchester City on Saturday.
While they have been united at Manchester United only recently, Pogba and Depay are long-term friends. Both of them were photographed last season in celebrating their summer holiday together. At that time, their holiday snaps caused quite a lot of stir in the British Media.
While most Manchester United fans might not know about this, Pogba is yet to find a permanent accommodation for himself in Manchester. As a result, he is currently staying at the Lowry Hotel. As for Memphis, the Dutchman might be questioned for his on-field attitude, however, his choice of cars is immaculate.
On Wednesday evening, the Dutchman drove to the Lowry Hotel in his Rolls-Royce Wraith. The two-door car, in which Memphis was photographed waiting for Pogba, costs £250k in the English market.
After picking up the 22-year-old Frenchman, Memphis then drove him to the Chinese restaurant Tattu in Spinningfields. As Manchester United fans would remember, this has been a popular destination for Manchester United players and their WAGs alike in the past.
Continuing the tradition, Pogba and Memphis remained in the restaurant for two hours before departing, according to the Manchester Evening News. Pogba was on international duty with France last week, where he assisted fellow Manchester United teammate Anthony Martial in his first goal for the French national side.
As for Depay, a string of bad performances has earned him ridicule from home and abroad like. Due to his poor match fitness, Dutch national team manager Danny Blind excluded the 22-year-old from his recent squad.
Ever since the arrival of José Mourinho, Depay has made only one solitary appearance for the Red Devils. While that came from the substitutes bench, the Dutch winger is believed to be severely short of match fitness.
Thus, while Pogba is sure to make his third appearance of the season for the Red Devils on Saturday, Memphis Dey will be lucky to make the bench. With the likes of Jesse Lingard and Henrikh Mkhitaryan above him, it may take some time before Depay could win the trust of Mourinho.
Moreover, even if Mkhitaryan fails to prove his fitness ahead of the Manchester derby, it is expected that Jesse Lingard will replace the Armenian in the Manchester United starting lineup. Therefore, barring a small miracle, Memphis will only start the Manchester derby from the bench at best.
