Messi Beats Ronaldo To World Record N10.7bn Scaglietti
Barcelona legend Lionel Messi has once again triumphed Real Madrid star, Cristiano Ronaldo in yet another battle for supremacy between the two players.
In the latest development, reports say that Messi outbid Ronaldo for an expensive fast car that both players have had their eyes on.
According to The Sun UK, Messi is believed to have paid a staggering N10, 664,000,000 (£24.8million) for the 1957 Ferrari 335 S Spider Scaglietti which Ronaldo had also wanted to buy.
The tabloid quotes Website Sport as saying that the car’s owner, Alessandro Proto auctioned off the motor to an anonymous buyer – said to be five-time Ballon d’Or champ Messi.
Proto Organisation say a bidding war erupted between Messi and Ronaldo for the vehicle, which Sir Stirling Moss used to win the 1958 Cuban Grand Prix.
The legendary car can reach 186mph and boasts a V12 engine with 390 horsepower at 7400rpm.
Its asking price began at around N6,450,000,000 (£15m) but rose quickly, smashing the old record of 7,525,000,000 (£17.5m) set in 2013 for the sale of a 1953 Mercedes W196.
But Messi’s camp deny his involvement in the auction.
