Strange Disease: Ferbrile Rash Illness Kills 20 Children In Lagos

Lagos State Government Friday raised alarm over outbreak of a strange disease known as Febrile Rash illness which has killed 20 children in the riverine community in Eti-Osa Local Government area of the state.

The government, which warned residents to be wary of the deadly disease, said disease was discovered in Otodo Gbame Community in Eti-Osa LGA by the Medical Officer of Health of the LGA on February 9 and has killed many children. It was first discovered on January 6.

New Telegraph learnt that so far, 20 children have been recorded dead while 34 cases of sick children with Febrile Rash illnesses (FRI) have been listed.

It was also learnt that the state government was yet to identify the cause of the disease.

Speaking on the outbreak, the Lagos State Commissioner for Health, Dr Jide Idris said that the state government had notified the Federal Ministry of Health and the World Health Organisation (WHO) on the scourge and immediately constituted a team of epidemiologists to investigate the outbreak and institute appropriate measures to prevent further spread of the disease.
