Prince was diagnosed AIDSs before his shock death, according to US reports.
The legendary singer’s body was discovered last Thursday at his Minnesota home, and an official cause of death is yet to be confirmed.
Now, according to claims in the US, the star was diagnosed with the life-threatening illness before his death after spending years medicating himself for HIV.
A source reportedly told the National Enquirer that the star was “preparing to die”.
The source is claimed to have messaged friends on April 19 to reveal the news.
“Doctors told Prince his blood count was unusually low and that his body temperature had dropped dangerously below the normal 98.6 degrees to 94 degrees,” the source claimed to the newspaper.
“He was totally iron-deficient, very weak and often disoriented. He rarely ate and when he did, it all came right back up.”

Prince was pictured for the last time just hours before his death, visiting a nearby pharmacy – but it’s unclear if the trip was related in any way.
Shockingly however, sources further claimed to the newspaper that the prescriptions he picked up were to help with the pain of influenza.
An employee at the Walgreens pharmacy, where Prince visited, reportedly told The National Enquirer: “We were all just shocked that he came in last night looking so beat. We said, ‘We are praying for you.'”
The newspaper claims Prince waved goodbye to them, before murmering that their prayers should have come earlier.
While the meds Prince had picked up weren’t confirmed, a source claimed one of the staff members working at the time noticed they were foreign, and claimed they were used to treat HIV.
Police are continuing to investigate whether foul play was involved in Prince's death after authorities said they had "no reason to believe" he killed himself and there were "no obvious signs of trauma" on his body.
