Workers at the Kwara State College of Education, Oro Thursday commenced an indefinite strike in protest over their unpaid eight months salary arrears.
But the state government said its failure to pay the workers was because several students of the institution have also failed to pay their school fees.
A statement signed by Comrade AbdulKareem Amuda-Kannike, on behalf of the three unions of the striking workers, lamented that the strike became imperative after series of consultation and appeal to Kwara government and its allies yielded no positive result.
The school along with three other among state owned tertiary institutions had gone on strike in July last year over the same issue.
The statement expressed concern over the economic hardship being faced by the workers due to the unpaid eight months salary adding that the situation was no longer bearable for them and that they can no longer guarantee a conducive learning environment at the institution.
