There seems to be no end in sight to the present crisis rocking Nigerian football as ambassador Chris Giwa has been released from police custody, two hours after his arrest at the NFF headquarters in Abuja on Friday evening.
Ambassador Giwa, proprietor of NPFL outfit Giwa FC, had stormed the Glass House around 4pm in defiance of heavy security men stationed around the premises. The security men were in the premises to forestall such an occurrence as incumbent NFF boss Amaju Pinnick had filed for a stay of execution on the Jos High Court ruling that ousted him.
He reportedly spent about 30 minutes in the building, granting interviews to reporters as he attempted to resume duties as the substantive head of the organization, but was eventually led away be the security personnel to the Divisional Police Headquarters, Wuse Zone 3.
However, he was released Friday night after spending a couple of hours in police custody, and he later told reporters his detention by the police was prompted by a report from the football secretariat.
He insisted that he had recovered his mandate and would resume as NFF president on Monday, while assuring that Giwa FC would honour this weekend’s league match having defaulted in the past couple of games.
