Religious Fanatics in Kano Textile Market Behead Elderly Woman for Alleged Blasphemy

It was 1995 all over again in Kofar Wambai market in Kano after a mob descended on an elderly woman yesterday, and slaughtered her. Her crime was that she allegedly committed blasphemy.

According to Vanguard, the tragic scene happened yesterday evening at the very popular textile market. Eyewitnesses told Vanguard that the slaughter caused tension as panicked business people quickly closed shops and ran from the scene.

Details of the victim is not yet known, and it is unclear if the authorities apprehended the perpetrators.

This brings to mind the similar incident of 1995, when Islamic fundamentalists attacked Gideon Akaluka in a police jail and beheaded him following claims that his wife used pages of the Koran to wipe her baby’s butt.
