Panicked residents scampered for safety as the daredevil cultists set houses ablaze and destroyed property in the raid that remains largely unexplained.
The Chairman, Caretaker Committee of Khana Local Government Area, Mr. Baridah Nsaanee, led a team of security operatives to inspect the destruction caused in the area, Punch reports.
Nsaanee appealed to the people of Akporo-Sogho community not to panic and allow the police to carry out their investigation with a view to getting to the root of the matter and bring the culprits to book.
He went further to declare zero tolerance for cultism in the state, pointing out that the amnesty offered by the state government is by no means a license for youths to go back to crime.
Meanwhile, the state Police Public Relations Officers, Mr. Nnamdi Omoni, said he was yet to be briefed on the carnage but promised to make a statement as soon as he was in a position to.
Rivers State has been a hotbed of violent crimes over the past year, with reprisal attacks by cult groups and politically motivated assassinations commonplace.
