Henderson's Reds will be looking to open up a six-point gap between themselves and United when they meet at Anfield on Monday night.
Though Pogba will be doing all he can to prove he is worth his world-record fee and lead Jose Mourinho's Red Devils to a third-straight domestic win on Merseyside.
However, if Merson was managing one of the sides, he's under no illusions as to which player he'd sooner have at his disposal.
"Today, Jordan Henderson," he told a Facebook Live Q&A session.
"Over the next 10 years, I don't know - it probably should be Pogba considering how much money they spent.
"Henderson has been as good as anybody in the Premier League. Credit where credit is due, he's been outstanding. Pogba has been struggling."
Should Jurgen Klopp's men secure victory, and results elsewhere go their way this weekend, they can leapfrog current leaders Manchester City at the top of the table.
