Norman Lever was also identified as the man who had his penis in the female collie's mouth after police recognised the patterned carpet in his North Devon home in the photograph.
Officers found the obscene picture on Lever's computer after he was caught downloading "repulsive" child abuse images online, Devon Live reports.
Jobless Lever, 31, of Kentisbury, near Combe Martin, admitted possession of extreme pornography and three counts of making indecent images of children.
The court heard he had been a carer for his mother.
He was jailed for 12 months, suspended for two years, and ordered to attend a sex offenders course.
He was also ordered to sign on the sex offenders' register for 10 years and made subject of a sexual harm prevention order for the same time.
