Nigeria: Why We Are Where We Are... - Ali Baba
This right here is another example of why we are where we are... there was more noise about the importation of this garri than there was for @iambangalee's #Kokogarri... let me scream it. WE ARE A COUNTRY OF FINISHED PRODUCTS. We can not make. We do not know or like processing. We like the finished product. The same way we can't make tyres. But we have Rubber. We can not make chocolate but we have cocoa. We import orange juice concentrates. But our oranges go dey rotten for Ekpoma. We have good wood but import furniture. We have rice but must import it.

We have universities but we must bring foreign certification. Crude oil dey... but against all logistics, we must import fuel. We have more potentials in the Riverine areas... but Michael Phelps must win all the gold. We have hunters that hunt only with spears... but we don't have a Javelin medal.

We have original stories of animals... from frog to Lion... but the Lion King is not from our loins. Madagascar the cartoon is not our idea. But it's our story. #Talesbymoonlight died... but that what all the cartoons are about. Teaching our children values we had tools to teach. We have over 200 television stations. Only one TV College. FELA had to come from Broadway. And we have waterfalls.. mountains and hills... rivers and lakes... festivals and divergent colorful cultures... but we still can not create content for Satelite broadcast... we have the numbers. 200million people and counting. No synchronized data base. Police get. Bank get. INEC get. Hospitals get. Schools get. Church get. Censors board get. Ministry of Budget and planning get... we no get ourselves. Mscheeeew.

A country of over 200m people, one musical artiste no fit sell 2 million CDs of a creative work. Why? Because pirates can call the bluff of National Assembly, the police and the Judiciary. Do you see the amount of monies being made at the cinemas? Can you imagine if the pirates are contained? #theweddingparty would have done 1b in sales. But no. The uniform of the CG of customs matters more than the pirates. That cars without duties. Than smuggled goods. Expired or banned goods. Our journey faaaaaaar.
