    BUHARI WIDENS ANTI-CORRUPTION WAR

AGAINST the background of allegations of selective policy in the ongoing anti-corruption war, President Muhammadu Buhari administration has ordered the Independent Corrupt Practices and other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) to look into the financial transactions of the states even as the anti-graft agency has set up a five-man panel to investigate corruption allegations against the immediate past governor of Ekiti State, Kayode Fayemi.

To this end, the commission has widened its dragnet to all the states and has resolved to investigate all the former governors irrespective of political leanings .

The body, last week, disclosed that it was investigating the financial transactions of four ex-governors, Rotimi Amaechi (Rivers), Sullivan Chime, (Enugu), Ibrahim Shema (Katsina) and Rabiu Kwankwaso (Kano). The latest development from Ekiti State, is the fifth state the agency will be investigating. A source at the ICPC disclosed that the Commission has deployed its personnel in all the states to look into the dealings by the affected former governors. He said that the decision to probe the former governors was to put paid to claims by the opposition that the All Progressives Congress (APC)-led government was shielding former governors who belong to the ruling party.

A senior staff at the anti-corruption agency, told Daily Sun that the panel is headed by an Assistant Chief Investigation Officer and has already left for Ekiti state as part of its ongoing investigation.

According to the senior staff, the decision to extend the probe to Fayemi was in reaction to a petition against the former governor of Ekiti state by some whistle blowers who were privy to details of what transpired when he held sway. The source also said that the panel is headed by an Assistant Chief Investigation Officer in the agency and has already left for Ekiti State.

Daily Sun gathered that details of the allegations against the former governor of Ekiti state is being kept secret and only those who "have the need to know are privy to the allegations. Only the chairman and the case officers on the case are aware of the details of the allegations" the source added.

Meanwhile, a directive issued by the Chairman of the Commission, Mr. Nta Ekpo has directed the panels to submit their reports in two weeks.
