Prior to her surgery she weighed a whooping 1,102 pounds (500 kg), and she had not left her bedroom in 20 years. She was diagnosed with the parasitic condition known as elephantiasis and at birth she weighed a huge 11lbs (6kg) and she was diagnosed with cerebral palsy which further worsened her condition and made her less mobile. By the time she was a teenager, she had to start crawling as she could no longer walk due to her heavy weight.
Dr. Muffazal Lakdawala who headed the surgery said, ‘her parameters are all stabilized, kidney is much better, electrolytes are much better. She has done well post-surgery; she’s back in her room and taking liquids,”
He said if all went well, the intention was to take another 155 to 175 pounds (70 to 80 kg) off her weight before sending her home to Egypt within the next couple of months
